The rector of the National Open and Distance University (UNAD), Jaime Leal, met with the Minister of Education, Daniel Rojas, to discuss educational coverage and institutional accreditation. The meeting highlighted the institution's recent academic progress.
In particular, it was recalled that UNAD's first doctoral program was approved in June 2025, a milestone in the history of the university and in distance education in Colombia. This achievement marks a significant step in the consolidation of its high-quality academic offerings.

UNAD has stated its commitment to expanding national coverage without sacrificing standards of academic excellence, strengthening its capacity to address the current challenges of higher education in the country.
The institution reaffirmed its willingness to work with the Ministry of Education to ensure that more Colombians can access quality programs, including the new doctorate, which represents a step toward inclusive and relevant education.
During the official presentation of the program, it was highlighted that the doctorate in Education, Technology, and Emerging Pedagogies was approved by Resolution 11120 of June 4, 2025. The university explained that this program seeks to strengthen high-level research with a territorial impact, supported by innovative methodologies and approaches such as neuropedagogy and eutagogy, which are part of its academic model.
At the launch, UNAD noted that the new doctorate aims to design learning ecosystems that contribute to closing educational gaps throughout the country, with an emphasis on teachers who have not had access to this level of training. It also highlighted that the program incorporates principles of social inclusion, sustainability, and digital transformation, contributing to the development of specialized academic communities and the construction of innovative educational paradigms both locally and globally.
