On September 12, 2025, the Danish Ministry of Defense announced its largest-ever arms purchase, with an investment of 40 billion Danish kroner (approximately 5.4 billion euros).
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen explained that the decision reflects the commitment to strengthen national defense and meet NATO spending targets. Part of the funds will be allocated to the acquisition of missiles, artillery, and air defense systems.
According to the Danish government, the increase in military capabilities also aims to support Ukraine against the Russian invasion and guarantee the security of Northern Europe. This measure is considered historic due to the amount and scope of the acquisitions.
The plan will be implemented over the coming years and includes agreements with partners in the European Union and the United States, strengthening strategic cooperation within the framework of the Atlantic Alliance.
