On August 25, 2025, the Tenth Specialized Criminal Court of Bogotá found Giancarlo Auque de Silvestri, former intelligence director of the defunct Administrative Department of Security (DAS), guilty of the crime of aggravated torture against investigative journalist Claudia Julieta Duque ([El Espectador](https://www.elespectador.com/judicial/condenan-a-exfuncionario-del-das-por-tortura-a-periodista-que-investigo-caso-de-jaime-garzon/)).

The sentence imposes a 12.5-year prison term, along with a fine of 1,200 times the legal minimum wage. Authorities also requested an Interpol red notice for his whereabouts, given that there has been no information on his whereabouts since 2016, when he was released.

According to the ruling, Auque de Silvestri participated in a coordinated plan to inflict psychological torture on Duque during his investigation into the murder of Jaime Garzón, by intimidating his family, particularly his daughter.

Judge Martha Cecilia Artunduaga Guaraca warned that these acts also constitute gender-based violence, perpetrated because she is a woman and because of her journalistic and investigative work, which was used as a strategy to silence her.
