Air Canada announced this Saturday, August 16, the suspension of most of its flights due to a flight attendant strike that began nationwide. The measure affects both domestic and international routes and has caused cancellations and delays at key airports such as Toronto and Montreal.
The flight attendants' union, which represents more than 9,000 workers, declared the strike after failing to reach an agreement in contract negotiations related to wages, working conditions, and flight safety. "Our members have been forced to take this action after months of unsuccessful talks," the union said in a statement.
The airline asked passengers for their understanding and recommended they check the status of their flights before heading to the airports. It also announced that it will offer refunds and rescheduling at no additional cost to those affected. The Canadian government expressed its concern and asked the parties to resume dialogue to restore air service as soon as possible.
