El Espectador revealed that the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) heard testimonies from two financiers of the paramilitary massacres of La Granja (1996) and El Aro (1997), which occurred in the Antioquia municipality of Ituango.

According to reports, two high-ranking officials from Álvaro Uribe Vélez's government in Antioquia allegedly promoted the formation of a private security group, which ended up being used as a front for paramilitary groups.

Former President Uribe has denied the allegations and maintains that there was no link between his departmental administration and criminal organizations.

These testimonies are part of the JEP's ongoing clarification process regarding the relationship between state agents, private sectors, and armed groups in Antioquia during the 1990s.
