In the letter, Gaitán recalled his decades-long friendship with Uribe Londoño and expressed his surprise and sadness at the decision not to allow President Petro to attend the ceremonies at the Primate Cathedral of Colombia.
According to Gaitán, the gesture sends a message that excludes a portion of the citizenry and contradicts the values of reconciliation, especially at a time that should have united in grief and reflection.
He reaffirmed his commitment to "Moral and Democratic Restoration" and stated that, although he maintains affection for the history of friendship, he could not remain silent in the face of what he considers an act of exclusion.
