The Government of Colombia and the People's Republic of China signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize Colombia's adherence to the Belt and Road Initiative, known as the Silk Road. The ceremony, held in the presence of representatives from both governments, marks a new chapter in bilateral relations.

The agreement contemplates promoting joint projects in areas such as infrastructure, connectivity, trade, investment, science, technology, and education. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the aim is to foster sustainable development and expand opportunities for economic and cultural exchange.

The Belt and Road Initiative, launched by China in 2013, brings together more than 150 countries and international organizations with the goal of enhancing global cooperation through transportation, trade, and investment networks. Colombia thus becomes one of the last Latin American countries to formally join this strategy.
