German Chancellor Annalena Baerbock said this Saturday that if a summit between US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is to take place, it should be held in Europe.
The German foreign minister argued that the European Union must play a central role in any initiative aimed at peace in Ukraine. "Europe cannot be a bystander in a conflict taking place on its own continent," she declared.
Baerbock emphasized that Germany and its European partners are willing to support a dialogue process, but insisted that any negotiations must be based on respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The proposal comes amid international discussions about possible mediation scenarios in the conflict, with the United States and European actors evaluating options to reduce military and diplomatic tensions.
